A first by Sunshine Coast company AccessPlus brought a new Internet service to cruising yachts. It was called MarinaNet and its mission was to provide hassle-free, convenient and economical, high speed Internet access for cruising and residential yachties while in port.

The first marina to join was the Mooloolaba Yacht Club in 2001. It quickly spread to 24 sites along Queensland’s cruising coast from Townsville to Southport with one more in Coffs Harbour NSW. More are coming to fill in some gaps.

There has been much water under the technical bridge since it was rolled out – higher speeds, easier connectivity and accounts that remember you from port to port, year to year.

Don Muir, yachtie, civil engineer and communications specialist was the architect of the concept. His dream to work from the luxury of his foredeck was realised! Good job Don......... who has now continued his yachting career and handed on the reins of control to his co director from the start and current managing director Neil Thompson.
